About the Department:
The Department of Alternative Energy Technology offers a program that grants a bachelor’s degree in Alternative Energy Technology after a student completes 132 credit hours. The program focuses on technological areas related to the development of renewable energy, where applied materials and workshops constitute 50% of the study plan hours. Based on the expertise of specialized professors, the program aims to qualify skilled graduates in the technological field. The program is preparing to obtain accreditation from the American Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Alternative Energy Technology program covers important and numerous areas such as installation, design, maintenance, and management of various renewable energy systems like wind energy, hybrid systems, solar and thermal energy systems, and bioenergy systems. The Alternative Energy Technology program presents a unique opportunity to understand energy transformations and usage in society.
The program successfully integrates effective education with practical and in-depth technical learning, based on well-equipped workshops and laboratories such as wind energy workshops, hybrid systems, solar and thermal electric energy systems, and laboratories for heat transfer, fluid mechanics, bioenergy systems, energy storage systems, measurements, electrical circuits and electronics, modeling and simulation, and internal combustion engines.
The department aims to educate specialists equipped with both theoretical and in-depth knowledge in the renewable energy fields emphasized in the program. Students will gain research experience in the energy field and practical training in the industry. The first cohort of students from the department graduated in the second semester of the 2018/2019 academic year.
