A scientific workshop specializing in reality capture techniques for construction projects
Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan organized a specialized scientific symposium for students and researchers from the College of Engineering and Technology and the College of Architecture and Design, entitled "Capturing the Reality of the Built Environment and Construction Projects: Practical Applications of Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry, and Drone Mapping for Site Monitoring and Digital Documentation."
The symposium addressed the latest developments in modern technology in the field of digital documentation and monitoring of construction projects and the built environment. It focused on the use of laser scanning and 3D imaging techniques in monitoring the structural safety of buildings, also known as "building health monitoring." It also included detecting conflicts and overlaps in projects, verifying the flatness of surfaces and joints, and monitoring and documenting the completion stages at work sites.
The symposium also featured demonstrations of the devices used in 3D scanning and laser technologies, along with practical applications implemented directly using these devices and their accompanying software. The symposium was presented by engineer and researcher Shadi Al-Athamneh from Aurbun University in the United States of America, who this year won the Distinguished Graduate Researcher Award from the same university. Al-Athamneh is part of a joint research team from Aurbun University and Georgia Tech University in the United States, which aims to preserve archaeological sites around the world, including several sites in Jordan.
The symposium garnered widespread interest from students and researchers and contributed to opening up research collaborations, as many students expressed their interest in engaging in joint research projects with the expert and his team.
Civil engineering students at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan win second place in the graduation projects competition.
Students from the Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan won second place in the graduation projects competition organized by the Jordanian Engineers Association for the Civil Engineering Division. Their project, titled "The Effect of Salt Dam Insulation on Water Seepage Through Their Bodies," was completed under the supervision of Engineer Anwar Muhammad Al-Tarawneh, and the efforts of students Suzan Abdul Hakim Salha, Nouf Muhammad Al-Hunaiti, Mona Hamdan Al-Suleihat, Adnan Imad Barham, and Rashid Adnan Al-Hawamdeh. This achievement reflects the outstanding academic level of the students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and is an extension of a series of successes achieved by the college in graduation projects competitions over the past years, which confirms the university's commitment to fostering engineering creativity and innovation among its students.
