The establishment of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at the Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan has been approved by the decision of the Higher Education Council on 26-1-2023, and The Bachelor's program in the specialty of Physiotherapy has been localized there. The College also adopted a distinguished study plan for the specialty of physiotherapy with a total number of 132 credit hours with attention to the practical and applied side, which is considered one of the main pillars of excellence in this unique specialty, where the plan was prepared on the basis that the ratio of practical applied hours and actual field training hours is 62% compared to the number of actual theoretical study hours 38%. New and updated courses have been added to meet the needs of the local, regional, and international labor market in the specialty of physiotherapy. According to the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, physiotherapy is a medical specialty that aims to restore movement and function to people with injury, illness or disability and may help reduce the risk of injury or illness in the future, hence the importance of establishing the specialty of physiotherapy. Therefore, this program is concerned with preparing curricula that include prevention, diagnosis and treatment in addition to the rehabilitation of disabilities and motor and physical challenges using different therapeutic methods with the aim of preparing a graduate capable of competing locally, regionally and internationally. The Bachelor of Physiotherapy program works to prepare graduates in the field of advanced physiotherapy in hospitals, health care centers and rehabilitation centers through courses that include physiotherapy concepts, devices used, treatment methods and therapeutic interventions in various medical conditions (surgery and burns, women, internal medicine and intensive care, orthopedics, neurology, children) in addition to clinical and field training that includes training students on treatment methods for various diseases, which qualifies graduates to practice physiotherapy. At the national level, on 7/27/2021, the Jordanian Ministry of Health launched the National Rehabilitation Strategy in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the Humanity and Integration Organization. The specialty of physical therapy is considered an important part of this strategy. At the regional level, the need for specialization has emerged in many neighboring countries, most notably the Arab Republic of Egypt, where the demand for physical therapy has increased. Many private colleges have been opened, and more private, civil and foreign universities that contain physical therapy programs are currently being expanded. It is worth noting that the specialty of physical therapy is considered one of the important medical specialties. At the international level, the specialty of physical therapy is one of the important and influential specialties in many countries of the world, such as the United States of America, Britain, Australia and Germany. Based on the above, the importance of the need to establish a specialty of physical therapy came to keep pace with the national, regional and international labor market.
