The opening was attended by deans of graduate studies and scientific research from public and private Jordanian universities, a number of academics and experts, the University’s Vice President Professor Tariq Alqirim, faculty deans, and members of the academic and administrative staff.
In his opening remarks, Professor Al-Majali noted that hosting the conference for a second year reflects the University’s firm commitment to advancing scientific research and to providing a stimulating academic environment that contributes to knowledge production and community service. He said, “Such scholarly gatherings are more essential than ever, as they enable the exchange of perspectives and the presentation of high-quality research that keeps pace with contemporary challenges and serves diverse fields.”
He added that the conference theme was chosen to align with current needs, expressing hope that the participating papers would enrich the academic field with constructive recommendations that benefit researchers and scientific institutions over the long term. He also pointed out that the University organizes five scientific conferences annually, in cooperation with various faculties, as part of its vision to elevate the academic landscape and strengthen its research presence locally and internationally.
For her part, Professor Reema Abu Khalaf, Dean of Graduate Studies and Conference Chair, explained that the conference serves as an interactive scientific platform that enables graduate students to present their research in a collaborative setting, affirming that students are true partners in developing knowledge rather than merely its recipients. She noted that the conference featured seven research tracks covering a wide range of disciplines and received diverse submissions that were evaluated according to the highest academic standards.
She added that the Deanship supervises 15 master’s programs across eight faculties, enrolling around 500 students, and has graduated more than 1,100 master’s students to date. Professor Abu Khalaf emphasized that the conference embodies the University’s vision of providing an environment that fosters creativity and promotes research excellence through knowledge exchange and the building of academic partnerships with universities locally and internationally.
In the same vein, Professor Youssef Al-Abdallat of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions stressed that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is a decisive factor shaping the orientations, methods, dynamics, and mechanisms adopted by academic institutions in the Arab region. It also presents challenges and opportunities that require strategic responses. He affirmed that the Commission’s vision and mission aim to enhance competitiveness, noting that the future of economic and knowledge-based development depends on mastering modern technologies and employing them in research and development. He underscored that aligning higher-education outcomes with labor-market needs has become an urgent necessity to achieve sustainable development and increase the added value of the national economy.
Professor Mohammad Al-Qudah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Jordan, highlighted the importance of developing graduate programs and improving the quality of higher education. He stressed the need to reinforce accreditation standards, raise the quality of theses by updating admission requirements, implement competency examinations, and encourage rigorous scholarly publishing.
Speaking on behalf of the participating students from An-Najah National University, Dr. Riyad Shkokani said the conference is more than an academic event; it reflects the University’s deep belief in the role of graduate students in knowledge production and in linking scientific research to societal issues. He added that the conference successfully brought together researchers from various disciplines in an intellectual gathering that underscores the importance of openness and research integration.
The conference aims to strengthen scholarly communication among graduate students, support an independent academic identity, build effective research partnerships, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and harness scientific research to serve community-development priorities.
