Program Vision

Building specialized competencies in the field of English literature, achieving leadership and excellence at the local and regional levels, and supplying the labor market with distinguished graduates armed with knowledge, skills and competencies, capable of creative application in the use of information technology and modern teaching and learning strategies.


Program Mission and Objectives:

    1. Achieving the conformity of learning outcomes in all areas of specialization with the descriptors of the seventh level (knowledge, skills and competencies) within the National Qualifications Framework.
    2. Integrating modern information technology and employing it in a creative fashion in the teaching and learning processes to reach more effective learning and taking into account the needs of the learner.
    3. Enhancing the principle of self-sustainable lifelong learning, and highlighting the learner’s creativity in light of global transformations through the application of various teaching and learning strategies.
    4. Familiarizing the students with and sufficient knowledge of the stages of the emergence and development of English literature in different eras.
    5. Developing the students’ abilities and skills in critical readings, and identifying the most important literary works and different genres in British and American literature.
    6. Reinforcing the various linguistic, written and oral skills and competencies.

    4. Supplying the local market with its need of qualified translators in various fields and specializations.

Appreciating the role of literary stages in consolidating human values, and highlighting the role of historical, religious and social movements in the development of literature.

Judging the quality of translated texts from Arabic into English and vice versa.

Program Vision

Empower students in the field of English literature to achieve a firm grasp of the broad spectrum of English and American literature, including its development, genres, periods, trends, main authors, and literary theories, and enable them to master the knowledge, skills, and competencies to compete successfully in the marketplace as researchers, teachers, journalists, writers, and translators.


Program mission and objectives:

  1. Deepen the students’ understanding and appreciation of English literature, with special emphasis on modern and postcolonial literatures, and on literary and critical theory.
  2. Enable the students to develop a historical awareness of literary traditions.
  3. Help the students develop their own independent critical thinking and judgement.
  4. Instill in the students the habits and spirit of scholarship and teach them the research methods that facilitate advanced literary study
  5. Fulfill the learning outcomes as delineated below under knowledge, skills and competencies and making sure they conform to the standards of the National Qualifications Framework.
  6. Promote the principle of self-sustainable, lifelong learning, and encourage the students to have creative responses to all types of literary texts.

Master the knowledge of Analyzing and discussing the salient features of literary texts from a broad range of English and American literary periods.

Examine literary problems in a way that reflects insight into the distinctive historical, traditional and social situatedness of English literature as an academic discipline

Employ knowledge of literary traditions to produce imaginative writing and demonstrate interpretive and analytical skills and ability to close-read.
